Messina adopts 2026‑28 budget and prepares new Basile‑led municipal cabinet

The Metropolitan Council of Messina approved the Unified Programming Document (Dup) and the 2026‑28 forecast budget, targeting a financial recovery through expenditure revision, stronger technical staff and support for award‑winning municipalities. The budget projects revenues of €614.6 million for 2026 and a cash surplus of €141.7 million, with a planned cut of €614 k and a contribution of €25.7 million for public‑finance remediation continuing through 2027. Part of the funding includes €12.2 million from the PNRR and €39.8 million in local taxes.

At the same time, Mayor Federico Basile is set to form a new municipal cabinet focused on continuity and a turnover policy. Six assessors are confirmed, with a youth‑policy assessor to be chosen from the under‑45 and under‑35 lists. The administration emphasizes maintaining ongoing projects while integrating new political actors ahead of upcoming regional elections.
