Messina City Council finalizes commission appointments under Mayor Federico Basile
The Messina municipal council completed the installation of its eight permanent commissions. The majority bloc backing Mayor Federico Basile secured all eight commission presidencies, naming Calogero Brancatelli, Mirko Cantello, Giuseppe Busà, Giuseppe Chiarella, Silvia Bosurgi, Antonio Bonfiglio, Antonella Feminò and Francesco Benedetto as presidents of the respective committees. The newly formed commissions began work immediately, with the first commission addressing tariff (TARI) exemptions for low‑income families.
An additional council session called by President Massimo Minotoli focused on appointing the second vice‑presidency, which remains unsettled. Discussions centre on which councilor will fill the role, with Antonella Feminò mentioned as a potential candidate. The council will continue meeting from Monday to Thursday to formalise its permanent structures under article 55 of the chamber regulations.
