Messina City Council leader questions delay in municipal board appointments

Libero Gioveni, the leader of the Fratelli d’Italia group in the Messina City Council, has questioned the delay in appointing 18 board members for six municipal companies. The postponement of these appointments by Mayor Basile has raised concerns regarding political influence in the selection process.

Gioveni noted that a recent event at the Salone delle Bandiere appeared to involve numerous candidates seeking positions, suggesting an atmosphere of political expectation. He questioned whether the delay is due to the need to evaluate 550 submitted applications or an attempt to maintain political balances ahead of regional elections.

The delay in governance is cited alongside other unresolved local issues in Messina, including stalled tram construction, road maintenance, water emergencies, and commercial crises.
