Messina Council Suspends Amam Road‑Maintenance Contract, Shifts Service to Public Department

Councilor Libero Giovani, leader of the Fratelli d’Italia group in Messina, praised the municipal administration’s decision to end the additional road‑maintenance contract with Amam. The change was formalised by Giunta decree No. 523 on 6 August 2026, which redirects Amam to focus solely on water and sewage services. Giovani noted that the move frees €16.6 million from FSC funds and €6 million from Cassa Depositi e Prestiti for other needs, and he urged the city’s Department of Maintenance to ensure sufficient staffing for ordinary road work, which had been reduced in recent years.

The councilor highlighted that the suspension addresses longstanding service disruptions and aligns the contract with the city’s current water‑crisis priorities, while anticipating future extraordinary road‑maintenance projects under the new arrangement.
