Messina Metropolitan Council election gives Sud Chiama Nord 7 of 14 seats
The second election in two years to renew the Messina Metropolitan Council was held, with voting limited to mayors and councilors of the 108 municipalities. Turnout was 82.81%, with 1,055 of 1,274 eligible officials casting ballots.
The result gave the local list Sud Chiama Nord the largest representation with seven seats (40,339 weighted votes, 45%). Fratelli d'Italia secured three seats (18,809 weighted votes, 21%). The Democratic Party obtained two seats (12,343 weighted votes, 13.8%). The Lega and Grande Sicilia each received one seat (7,103 votes, 7.9%; 5,829 votes, 6.5%). The Forza Azzurra list fell short, receiving 5,152 weighted votes (5.75%) and no seats.
The newly elected council will work alongside metropolitan mayor Federico Basile in governing the area.
