Messina municipal council election results confirmed after verification

The central polling station at Palazzo Zanca in Messina completed the verification of 253 voting sections three weeks after the municipal elections. A meeting of the central electoral office, chaired by magistrate Giuseppe D’Agostino, will proclaim the 22 elected council members.

Seat distribution gives the coalition "Sud chiama Nord" the largest bloc with seven seats, followed by the mayor‑supporting list Basile sindaco (four seats) and the lists Messina Protagonista, Federico per Messina, and Amo Messina each with three seats. Smaller groups secure two seats each: Fratelli d’Italia, Popolari e Autonomisti‑Grande Sicilia, the Marcello Scurria list and Lega. The Partito Democratico obtains three seats, with Mariella Perrone receiving the highest individual preference count (2,109 votes). The newly elected council will replace the outgoing members, many of whom are expected to resign from their current assessor positions.

The verification process produced a 180‑page verbale and confirmed the majority prize of 20 seats for the lists supporting mayor Federico Basile. The proclamation of the new council is scheduled for tomorrow, finalising the post‑election composition of Messina’s municipal government.
