Messina secures €69,938 grant as national “Città che legge” winner

Messina placed third among Italian municipalities in the 2025 “Città che legge” competition, a national programme promoted by the Centro per il Libro e la Lettura under the 2024‑2026 reading promotion plan. The city obtained a €69,938 grant to implement an integrated project aimed at fostering reading across the community.

Mayor Federico Basile said the award recognises the municipal administration’s work in cultural policies and the creation of a territorial network that involves libraries, schools, cultural associations and third‑sector organisations. The funding will support activities designed to build a local reading ecosystem, with a programme and calendar of events to be presented in the coming months.
