Messina to receive 130 million euros for eight PNRR urban projects

Eight urban development projects in the Metropolitan City of Messina, valued at approximately 130 million euros, are scheduled for completion by December 31, 2027. These projects are funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The largest allocation, roughly 55.66 million euros, is dedicated to the urban regeneration of the ‘Città del Ragazzo’ for social inclusion purposes. Other significant projects include the regeneration of the former IRIA Colony in Sant’Agata di Militello (21.67 million euros), the reconversion of the former Magazzini Gazzi (16 million euros), and the regeneration of the former IAI (13.94 million euros).

Additional works include the redevelopment of the Capo Peloro area (10 million euros), the regeneration of the former Villaggio Le Rocce (7.55 million euros), the urban redevelopment of the Camaro district (3 million euros), and the demolition and reconstruction of the former Fonderia Ragno (2.23 million euros).

According to ANCE Messina, these projects were identified in a decree by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. While these specific interventions no longer meet the EU target completion date of June 30, 2026, the funding remains secured under the PNRR, subject to continued monitoring and reporting requirements.
