Greek farmers plan tractor protest at Thessaloniki International Fair

Greek farmers and livestock producers are organizing a major mobilization involving tractors to protest at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on September 5. In preparation, representatives from across the country scheduled a panhellenic meeting at the Malgara Spiritual Center on August 29 to coordinate strategy and assess their strength.

Producers cite worsening conditions in the primary sector, including uncontrollable production costs and the fact that products are often sold below cost while retail prices remain high. Key grievances include delays in subsidies and compensation payments, lack of liquidity, and systemic communication failures with authorities such as the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

Local associations, including the Federation of Agricultural and Livestock Associations of Messinia, have issued calls for mass participation, stating that previous government promises have not resulted in substantive support. The movement highlights the severity of the crisis, noting that some families have been forced to abandon their land due to the inability to sustain their livelihoods.
