Messinia (Greece) Secures €5.6 Million for Water Network Replacement

The Messinia municipality in southern Greece has had a €5.6 million water‑supply project incorporated into the Ministry of Environment and Energy’s “Drinking‑Water Provision and Management” program. The project will replace a 16.745‑km external pipe that runs through the villages of Valyra, Lambaina, Aristodemio, Eva and Amphithea, terminating at Messinia’s existing reservoir. It is designed to tackle water scarcity, improve drinking‑water quality, reduce losses, and ensure a sustainable supply for thousands of residents over the coming decades.

The announcement was made in Tripoli by Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, with the mayor of Messinia, Georgios Athanasopoulos, praising the funding and thanking regional officials. Studies and permits for the work began in 2021 and were completed in 2025, and the project is part of a broader set of water‑infrastructure upgrades for the Peloponnese region.
