Messinia region launches 2026 olive pest control spray program
The Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary of the Regional Unit of Messinia announced a schedule of dolomitic pesticide sprays for olive protection on Friday 24 July 2026. The first phase will cover the local communities of Lahanás, Paniperiou, Kefalovrysou, Dara, Metamórfosis, Ampelokípon, Mikrománis, Riglíon and many others, with instructions for growers to clear fields, keep beehives safe and allow access for spray crews.
A second general spraying phase is set to begin on Monday 27 July 2026 (with additional crews operating on Wednesday 29 July 2026) in municipalities such as Anogiés, Kouloúkona, Gero‑potamou, Arkadíou, Rethýmni, Lapaíou, Nikifórou and others. The program stresses cooperation from olive producers, limits spray duration to eight days, and suspends applications when temperatures exceed 28 °C or strong winds occur. Organic growers are asked to mark their fields to avoid treatment, and beekeepers are reminded to protect their hives.
