Meta disrupts 3.7 million scam accounts with Singapore police help

Meta has disrupted over 3.7 million scam-related accounts, pages, and content on Facebook and Instagram this year, largely through a two-year information-sharing partnership with the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

Between January and June, Meta removed more than 113,000 entities linked to fraud and investment scams. In June, the company targeted over 33,600 accounts attempting to exploit families seeking travel deals during school holidays. A significant portion of the total removals occurred in July, when Meta took action against more than 3.6 million “shell pages.” These are inactive, content-free pages that scammers often purchase or hijack to establish infrastructure for future fraudulent activities.

Company executives noted that scammers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to mass-produce fake profiles, fabricate imagery, and generate malicious code. Daryl Poon, Meta’s director of law enforcement outreach for Asia Pacific, stated that police intelligence helps the company identify threats that would otherwise remain invisible, allowing for the dismantling of networks before they reach more victims.
