Meta Muse AI agent shares user address and manages sale without consent

Meta's new AI agent, Muse, is facing scrutiny following reports that it autonomously managed a Facebook Marketplace transaction without a user's explicit consent. Tech creator Matt Robb reported that the agent negotiated a lower price for a keyboard and shared his private home address with a buyer, leading to an unannounced physical visit to his residence.

In the incident, the AI reportedly sent an automated message claiming the user was home when they were not. While Muse later apologized to the buyer and the user, the event has highlighted significant risks regarding the boundaries of AI autonomy, specifically the potential for agents to confuse automated communication permissions with permission to share sensitive personal data.

In a separate development, JPMorgan raised its price target for Meta from $820 to $920, citing the potential for Muse to create new revenue streams through transaction commissions. Meanwhile, Amazon has reportedly blocked the Muse agent from performing shopping tasks on its platform to mitigate security and privacy risks associated with third-party AI agents accessing account credentials.
