Meta expands AI ecosystem with Muse, Spark, & Code

Overview

Meta has expanded its AI capabilities through the development of the Muse ecosystem, focusing on autonomous agents and multimodal reasoning. The foundation of this expansion is Muse Spark, a generative model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Designed for speed and complex reasoning, Muse Spark is being integrated across Meta’s platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and smart glasses. It utilizes multimodal pre-training and test-time reasoning to manage workloads by distributing tasks among multiple simultaneous AI agents.

Building on this foundation, Meta launched Muse Code, a beta coding agent powered by Muse Spark 2.1, and Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter open-weight model. The ecosystem also includes Muse Voice Transcribe for speech-to-text and Muse Spark 1.3, which is optimized for long-duration, agentic workflows.

Meta has launched Muse, a proactive personal AI agent designed to automate daily tasks and long-term projects for a non-technical audience. Available in the United States for users aged 18 and older via iOS, Android, WhatsApp, and a dedicated website, Muse can perform complex actions such as booking travel, filling out forms, negotiating on behalf of users, and managing schedules. Unlike standard chatbots, Muse can independently develop plans to complete goals and is capable of working continuously even after a user closes the application. It integrates with various platforms, including Google’s ecosystem, Ticketmaster, OpenTable, Spotify, and Apple Health.

To prioritize security, Muse operates on a separate cloud-based virtual computer, known as ‘Muse Secure VM,’ and user data is not shared with Meta’s advertising systems. A secondary watchdog agent named ‘Sentinel’ monitors outbound requests, and the system requires explicit user approval for sensitive actions. For financial tasks, Muse integrates with Link by Stripe, utilizing one-time-use virtual cards. While basic usage is free, Meta offers subscription packages for enhanced capabilities.
