Meta and Apple partner to run Muse Spark Open AI model on Mac Studio

Meta has released Muse Spark Open, an 816-billion-parameter open-weight AI model designed for complex programming, multi-step reasoning, and agentic workflows. In a significant strategic shift, Meta is collaborating with Apple to optimize the model for local execution on Mac computers using Apple’s open-source MLX machine-learning framework.

To run the model locally, substantial hardware is required. Optimal performance is achieved on clusters of Mac Studio computers equipped with M5 Ultra chips. For instance, a configuration using two Mac Studio units with 512GB of unified memory each can provide approximately 1TB of memory to load the massive model. This local deployment allows developers to process sensitive data without relying on cloud-based infrastructure.

Beyond coding, Meta has demonstrated the model’s utility in video editing via DaVinci Resolve and software development for the Mastodon client. The model supports a context window of up to one million tokens. Additionally, Meta has introduced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, models designed to provide personalized assistance by retaining user information across extended periods.
