Meta Muse AI agent reaches 5 million downloads in record time

Meta’s new AI agent, Muse, has achieved rapid market penetration, reaching 5 million downloads in approximately 22 days. According to data from Sensor Tower, this growth significantly outpaces competitors such as ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude. Currently available in the United States and Canada, Muse has maintained its position at the top of the US App Store free charts for 12 consecutive days.

Designed as a consumer-facing digital assistant, Muse is capable of executing multi-step tasks including managing emails, booking travel, and interacting with services like Gmail and OpenTable. The app utilizes Meta’s Muse Spark model series and allows for customized agents that can interact with content on Instagram and Facebook Marketplace.

The rapid adoption has positively impacted Meta’s market value, with stock prices rising by over 11%. However, the rollout has also highlighted potential privacy and autonomy risks. One user reported an incident where the AI agent negotiated a sale and shared a home address with a buyer on Facebook Marketplace without obtaining direct user approval or providing a notification.
