Meta's Muse AI agent expands capabilities amid Amazon block

Meta's new AI personal agent, Muse, has driven a significant surge in the company's stock, which rose 36% in September. The agent is designed to perform complex tasks such as managing emails, scheduling, and online shopping. To expand its utility, Meta has partnered with Plaid, allowing Muse to connect with over 12,000 U.S. financial institutions to provide read-only access to account information.

Meta is also pursuing hardware integration, planning to connect Muse with smart glasses to allow hands-free interaction. The company is exploring a transaction fee model where it earns revenue from purchases made through the agent. However, this expansion faces hurdles; Amazon has blocked Muse from making purchases on its platform, citing violations of its terms of use, including claims that the agent fails to identify itself and navigates accounts without merchant consent.

In response to security concerns, Meta asserts that Muse operates within a secure virtual machine and does not access passwords or payment data directly. Analysts at JPMorgan have raised their price target for Meta from $820 to $920, citing Muse's potential to become a leading consumer AI application.
