Meta launches Muse Gadgets open-source project for custom AI hardware

Meta has launched Muse Gadgets, an open-source initiative designed to allow developers and hobbyists to build custom hardware that integrates with its Muse AI agent. The project provides an open-source firmware and a Linux-based Software Development Kit (SDK), enabling compatibility with common hardware like Raspberry Pi and ESP32 microcontrollers. This allows the AI to be integrated into various devices, including displays, sensors, and smart home controllers.

To demonstrate the ecosystem, Meta introduced the Muse Home Link, a USB-C dongle that connects the AI agent to home networks, allowing it to control smart devices like TVs and speakers. Meta has manufactured 5,000 units of the Home Link to be distributed for free to Muse subscribers while supplies last. Additionally, the company is planning to release a hardware accessory called Muse Charm in December.

The Muse AI assistant has seen rapid adoption, surpassing 5 million downloads in the US and Canada within 22 days of its launch. While the agent has formed retail partnerships with companies like Walmart, Gap, and Sephora to facilitate shopping tasks, Amazon has blocked Muse from performing shopping activities on its platform due to security and consent concerns.
