Meteora-Pyli UNESCO Geopark hosts educational event for students

The Directorate of Primary Education of Trikala, in collaboration with the Municipality of Meteora and the Meteora-Pyli UNESCO Global Geopark, organized an educational event titled ‘The Rocks of the Meteora-Pyli Geopark through the Eyes of Children’. Held on October 6, 2026, at the 1st Primary School of Kalabaka, the initiative marked UNESCO International Geodiversity Day.

Sixth-grade students from five primary schools within the Municipality of Meteora, along with students from the 1st Special Primary School of Kalabaka, participated in the program. Led by geologist and Geopark scientific associate Dr. Sotiris Balkanis, the students explored local minerals and rocks to understand the geological history of their region.

The primary objective of the event was to inform children about the UNESCO Global Geopark in which they live and to emphasize the importance of protecting its geological heritage.
