Metepec Illegal Charcoal Facility Closed by PROFEPA

After a citizen complaint, Mexico’s environmental enforcement agency PROFEPA inspected a charcoal storage and processing plant in the Agrícola Álvaro Obregón neighborhood of Metepec, State of Mexico. Inspectors found the facility operating without the required authorization from the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the operator refused to present documentation or accept the inspection order.

PROFEPA sealed the site, imposing a temporary total closure until the administrative procedure is completed. The agency said it will conduct follow‑up visits to verify compliance with environmental regulations.
