Methodology of Reuters/Ipsos US public opinion polls detailed
Reuters/Ipsos conducts national U.S. public opinion polls on political, business and social topics using its proprietary KnowledgePanel, a representative sample of Americans aged 18 and over. Participants are selected through a postal address‑based sampling method that includes all U.S. households; those without internet access receive free service and a laptop. The data are weighted to match U.S. Census demographics such as gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education, income and region, and may also be adjusted for partisan identification or reported 2024 presidential vote choice.
Six times a year the firm polls at least 4,000 respondents over roughly a week, with a margin of error of about 2 percentage points for the full sample. Over a year, at least 24 polls covering presidential approval and other topics are run, each reaching at least 1,000 people over a few days and typically carrying a 3‑point margin of error for smaller sub‑groups. Generic ballot polls are also produced to gauge overall party support.
