METLEN expands battery energy storage projects in UK, Italy, and Greece

METLEN is expanding its footprint in the battery energy storage systems (BESS) market through major projects in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Greece via its M RESET division.

In the United Kingdom, the company signed a Balance of Plant contract with Pulse Clean Energy for the Penn BESS project in the West Midlands. This 129 MW, 362 MWh facility is METLEN’s largest storage project in the country by capacity, with grid connection and electrification expected by the end of 2027. METLEN has already completed or is implementing approximately 30 battery storage facilities in the UK, totaling nearly 2 GWh.

In Italy, METLEN secured €18 million in long-term financing for a 25 MW/75 MWh BESS project in Apulia. The project is fully operational and supported by a seven-year Physical Tolling Agreement with Dolomiti Energia. The company’s total storage portfolio in Italy has reached approximately 3 GWh.

In Greece, METLEN is developing a large-scale storage unit in Thessaly in partnership with the Karatzis Group, featuring 330 MW of power and 790 MWh of capacity. Additionally, the 48 MW/96 MWh ‘Aenaos’ project in Chalkidiki has been completed through the ‘Greece 2.0’ program.
