METLEN renewable energy and storage expansion

METLEN is expanding its renewable energy and storage capabilities through digital acquisitions and infrastructure projects across Europe.

In August 2026, the company announced the acquisition of Joule, a Greek energy software firm. This move aims to integrate the jHub platform into METLEN’s operations, providing real-time monitoring, production forecasting, and remote control for its renewable energy and storage portfolios. This technology is intended to provide greater operational autonomy and enhanced digital services through an integrated customer portal. METLEN currently manages approximately 3 GW of installed renewable capacity across roughly 1,450 stations, with operations in Greece, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Simultaneously, METLEN is growing its battery energy storage systems (BESS) footprint through its M RESET division. In the United Kingdom, the company signed a contract for the Penn BESS project in the West Midlands, which features a power capacity of 129 MW and an installed battery capacity of 362 MWh. This project, expected to be electrified by the end of 2027, represents METLEN’s largest energy storage capacity in the UK to date. The company has already implemented nearly 2 GWh of capacity through various BESS units in the region.

Expansion continues in Italy and Greece. In Italy, METLEN secured €18 million in financing for a 25 MW/75 MWh BESS project in Apulia, contributing to a total Italian storage portfolio of approximately 3 GWh. In Greece, the company is developing a 330 MW/790 MWh storage unit in Thessaly with the Karatzis Group and has completed the 48 MW/96 MWh ‘Aenaos’ project in Chalkidiki.
