Metlen secures long-term gallium supply deal with Japanese chemical firm
Metlen has signed a long-term commercial agreement with a leading Japanese chemical company for the future supply of gallium. The deal covers up to 16 percent of the total annual output from Metlen’s production facility in Greece, which is currently under construction.
This agreement is the second strategic contract for the company’s future gallium production. The Greek facility, which utilizes proprietary technology and feedstock from Aluminium of Greece, is scheduled to begin commercial production in the third quarter of 2027. The plant aims for a total annual capacity of 50 metric tons.
Metlen Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos stated that the international response to the project has exceeded expectations, noting that global industries are seeking reliable and diversified sources for critical raw materials. The project positions Greece and Europe as emerging hubs in the strategic supply chain for gallium, a metal essential for artificial intelligence hardware, telecommunications, and defense systems.
