Metlen to establish EU's first integrated gallium production line in Greece

The global gallium market is projected to grow from an estimated $841 million in 2025 to $1.8 billion by 2032, driven by rising demand in next-generation semiconductor technologies such as gallium nitride and gallium arsenide.

In response to this growth, Metlen is implementing a strategic investment project in Greece to establish the first integrated gallium production line in the European Union. The project, which has received official strategic investment status, involves a total investment of €295.5 million, including €90 million in financial support from the European Investment Bank.

The production will take place at the former ‘Aluminium of Greece’ plant in Boeotia, where gallium is extracted as a byproduct during the bauxite processing used for alumina production. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable and autonomous supply chain for the European high-tech industry, reducing reliance on Asian markets.
