METRANS expands Poznań terminal to boost handling capacity

METRANS, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has completed a major expansion of its intermodal terminal in Gądki, near Poznań, Poland. The project significantly increases the site’s annual handling capacity by nearly 80 percent, reaching approximately 590,000 TEU. Additionally, the maximum container storage capacity has risen from 8,850 TEU to 11,800 TEU.

Key infrastructure upgrades include the installation of two new 80-meter-span remote-controlled railway gantry cranes and the addition of two new railway tracks. Existing tracks were extended to over 750 meters to accommodate full-length freight trains. The expansion also involved constructing 53,000 square meters of new paved areas for storage and transhipment, as well as implementing automated camera gate systems and a rail weighbridge.

Co-financed through Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Gądki terminal serves as a critical hub in METRANS’ European network, connecting the Polish market to major economic centers across 15 countries, spanning from the North Sea to the Black Sea.
