Polish intermodal logistics infrastructure expansion
Overview
Logistics infrastructure in Poland has seen significant expansion through new and upgraded intermodal terminals.
In late September 2026, CLIP Group inaugurated the South Poland Terminal Zabrze on the former site of the Makoszowy coal mine. This 193 million PLN investment, partially funded by the NextGenerationEU program, facilitates container transfers between rail and road at the A1 and A4 motorway junction. To support the facility, STS Logistic is expanding its fleet with electric Scania trucks and new car transporters.
Following this, METRANS completed a major expansion of its Gądki terminal near Poznań. Co-financed by Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the project increased the site’s annual handling capacity by nearly 80 percent to approximately 590,000 TEU. Upgrades included new remote-controlled railway gantry cranes, extended tracks to accommodate full-length freight trains, and increased container storage capacity.
