METRO 2039 leads gamescom Award 2026 nominations

The nominations for the gamescom Award 2026 have been announced, with ‘METRO 2039’ by 4A Games and Deep Silver leading the field with five nominations. Other major contenders include ‘Alien: Isolation 2’ (Creative Assembly/SEGA) and ‘Denshattack!’ (Undercoders/Fireshine Games), both receiving four nominations.

Key categories include Best Visuals, Best Audio, and Best Gameplay. In the ‘Most Epic’ category, ‘METRO 2039’ will compete against ‘Crimson Desert’ and ‘Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000’. Platform-specific categories feature titles like ‘Forza Horizon 6’ and ‘Gears of War: E-Day’ for Xbox, while Capcom’s ‘Mega Man: Dual Override’ is noted for Nintendo Switch 2.

In preparation for the event in Cologne, 4A Games has scheduled a series of reveals for ‘METRO 2039’, including an exclusive announcement on August 24 and a new gameplay trailer during the Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. Attendees can play a hands-on demo of the title in Hall 9.1 starting August 27. Community voting for the awards will take place online and on-site from August 26 to August 27.
