Metro de Medellín secures financing to modernize its train fleet
Mayor Federico “Fico” Gutiérrez announced that Metro de Medellín successfully placed a capital‑market operation, with investor demand 1.6 times the amount offered. The funds will be used to expand and renew the system’s rolling stock as part of an ongoing modernization plan.
The financing will support the arrival of 13 new trains, allowing the service to increase frequency, boost passenger capacity and improve overall quality for the millions who rely on the metro daily. The effort was coordinated by the Medellín mayor’s office, the Antioquia regional government and Metro de Medellín itself.
