Puerto Plata and San Miguelito cable car projects advance
Major cable car infrastructure projects are advancing in the Dominican Republic and Panama.
In the Dominican Republic, the Puerto Plata Cable Car is scheduled to begin a comprehensive remodeling and modernization process on October 3. The project, which involves an investment of approximately $22 million, aims to increase cabin capacity from 18 to 50 passengers and reduce travel times. The works will include upgrading terminals, the intermediate tower, cabling, and computerized control systems. The project is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
In Panama, Metro de Panamá, S. A. and Doppelmayr Panamá Corp. have signed a contract worth $255.16 million for the construction of the San Miguelito Cable Car. The 6.6-kilometer system will feature six stations and connect with Metro Line 2 to improve mobility for high-density communities. The contract now moves to the Office of the Comptroller General for review and approval before construction begins.
