Metro de Santiago passenger dies in Pajaritos station accident

Wilmer Quispe, a 38-year-old Peruvian national living in Chile, died after being struck by a train at the Pajaritos station on Line 1 of the Santiago Metro. The incident occurred while Quispe was traveling with his wife and sister.

Security footage indicates the accident resulted from a visual confusion on the platform. Quispe reportedly saw a stationary train on the opposite side of the tracks and, misled by the appearance of the platform door frames, believed the train was on his side. As he ran to board what he perceived to be his transport, another train entered the station and struck him, causing instantaneous death.

The victim's family has alleged negligence on the part of Metro, citing inadequate signage and the lack of physical barriers to prevent such confusion. Rogelio Quispe, the victim's brother, stated that the station's configuration contributed to the fatal error.
