Región Centro provinces sign pact to mitigate El Niño weather impacts
Authorities from the Argentine provinces of Entre Ríos, Córdoba, and Santa Fe have signed a reciprocity and collaboration agreement to strengthen prevention and response efforts against extreme weather events associated with the El Niño phenomenon. The agreement establishes a permanent framework for preparedness, alert, and recovery, including the creation of a Regional Information, Alert, and Coordination System to facilitate the exchange of meteorological and hydrological data.
Under the pact, provinces will provide mutual assistance, including human resources, technical equipment, vehicles, and machinery, to support jurisdictions whose response capacity is exceeded. The Córdoba Hydrometeorology Institute will play a key role in issuing early warnings with a 24 to 72-hour lead time.
In related regional developments, the Entre Ríos government has reinforced its emergency services by delivering six new ambulances and two motorcycles to Concordia, Federación, and Estancia Grande. These units, donated by the Salto Grande Mixed Technical Commission, aim to improve response times in areas with difficult access. Additionally, the provincial government is actively implementing Law 11.116 to ensure financial contributions and social security coverage for volunteer fire departments.
Separately, MetroGAS and Fundación Bomberos de Argentina have formalized a partnership to provide specialized training for emergency forces, focusing on managing risks and crises related to the natural gas industry.
