Metropolis of Corinth celebrates new deacon ordination

Metropolitan Paul of Corinth presided over the ordination of Elias Markantonis to the diaconate on October 20, 2026, at the Holy Church of Saint Gerasimos in Lechai. The ceremony took place during the festive Divine Liturgy celebrating the feast of Saint Gerasimos of Kefalonia.

Markantonis, originally from Athens and a father of four, will serve in the local church. During the service, Metropolitan Paul highlighted the importance of the candidate's priestly lineage, noting that the continuity of clerical service within a family is both a blessing and a responsibility. He encouraged the new deacon to serve with humility, love, and devotion.

The religious observances included a Great Panegyrical Vespers held on October 19 at the Holy Pilgrimage Temple of Saint Gerasimos in Trikala, Corinthia. Following the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan proceeded to the Holy Cathedral of Saint Paul in Corinth to perform the official Doxology for the feast of Saint Artemios.
