Mevlid Kandili observed across Islamic communities
Mevlid Kandili, the observance of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, is being commemorated across the Islamic world. In Turkey, the Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı has set the theme for the Mevlid-i Nebi Week as “Our Prophet and Good Morals.”
Various municipal leaders, including the mayors of Kayseri, Karatay, Konya, and Kocaeli, have issued messages emphasizing the Prophet's legacy of mercy, justice, and compassion. Many leaders highlighted the need for these values in addressing modern global conflicts, specifically mentioning the humanitarian crises in Gaza and Palestine.
Religious experts note that while there is no mandatory fast specifically for Mevlid Kandili, observing voluntary fasts is considered a meritorious act of gratitude. Observances typically include reading the Quran, performing voluntary prayers, reciting salawat, and participating in religious lectures and community programs.
