Mexicali Police Subcommander killed in armed attack

Ramón Barajas Félix, the 38-year-old subcommander of the Mexicali Municipal Police, was killed in an armed attack at his home in the Ejido Oviedo Mota region of the Mexicali Valley on Tuesday, September 22.

According to reports, two hooded individuals armed with high-powered rifles arrived at the residence on Adolfo Rentería Street in a gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck. The assailants opened fire on the occupants, killing Barajas at the scene and leaving his brother seriously injured.

Following the attack, authorities from municipal, state, and federal levels launched an intensive search operation across the roads and paths of the southern Mexicali Valley. This incident marks a recurring pattern of violence against law enforcement in the area; it is the third police officer executed in the municipality this year, following previous killings of state security agents in the same rural zone.
