Mexicali police officer assassination

Overview

On September 22, 2026, Ramón Barajas Félix, the 38-year-old subcommander of the Mexicali Municipal Police Immediate Reaction Group, was killed in an armed attack at his residence in the Ejido Oviedo Mota region of the Mexicali Valley.

Reports indicate that two hooded individuals using high-powered rifles arrived at the home in a gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck. The assailants opened fire, killing Barajas and leaving his brother seriously injured.

Municipal, state, and federal authorities have launched intensive search operations throughout the southern Mexicali Valley. This assassination is noted as the third instance of a police officer being executed in the municipality this year, following previous killings of state security agents in the same rural zone.
