Mexican academic institutions emphasize public science dissemination
Academic institutions in Mexico are emphasizing the importance of making scientific and humanistic knowledge accessible to the general public. During a lecture at UNAM, Elaine Reynoso Haynes, director of Science Public Communication Training and Research, argued that science should not be the exclusive property of those who generate it. She noted that scientific knowledge must be applicable for informed decision-making and highlighted the need for effective communication strategies to overcome barriers such as technical language and conflicting social beliefs.
In a separate event, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) joined the 40th-anniversary celebration of El Colegio Mexiquense. Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado and President Raymundo César Martínez García highlighted their shared mission of using research to serve society and address contemporary challenges. The commemoration included a keynote lecture on developing a scientific agenda based on Mexico’s linguistic diversity.
