Mexican animal shelters launch dog adoption campaigns

The Centro de Salud Animal of the Tantoyuca municipal government in Veracruz has begun a campaign urging residents to adopt abandoned dogs, stressing that a simple home can change an animal’s life and benefit owners emotionally.

In Valladolid, Yucatán, the shelter El Refugio de Marita, which houses 106 rescued dogs, was honored by the civil association Valladolid en Movimiento Social A.C. The recognition highlighted founder Marita Valdivieso’s personal financing of the shelter and a recent food drive that doubled donations. The shelter continues to seek public support, donations and volunteers to sustain its operations and promote responsible pet ownership.
