Mexican authorities crack down on illegal logging in Puebla and Oaxaca

Authorities in Mexico have conducted several operations to combat illegal logging and unauthorized wood processing in the states of Puebla and Oaxaca.

In Puebla, State Forestry Police disabled five clandestine kilns used for illegal wood dehydration in San Miguel Espejo and extinguished another kiln in Tetela de Ocampo. In Zacatlán, officials closed a sawmill after the operators failed to provide required permits from the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). Authorities also identified signs of unauthorized logging in Tetela de Ocampo, leading to coordination with Profepa.

In Oaxaca, Profepa and the National Guard filed criminal complaints with the Attorney General's Office (FGR) against a facility in Tlaxiaco. The site was found to be illegally storing and processing forest resources, including approximately 45 cubic meters of pine wood. The facility had also allegedly violated previous closure seals and safety measures. Authorities seized machinery, including saws and planers, and implemented a total temporary closure of the site to prevent further ecological damage.
