Mexican authorities combat illegal logging
Overview
Mexican authorities have conducted multiple operations across several states to combat illegal logging and unauthorized wood processing.
In Puebla and Oaxaca, enforcement actions targeted clandestine kilns, unauthorized sawmills, and facilities illegally storing forest resources. In Puebla, officials disabled several kilns and closed a sawmill lacking required permits. In Oaxaca, the National Guard and Profepa filed criminal complaints against a facility in Tlaxiaco for illegal wood processing and violating closure seals, resulting in the seizure of machinery and pine wood.
Following these actions, a joint inter-institutional operation in Xalatlaco, State of Mexico, dismantled a clandestine sawmill and timber warehouse. Utilizing drone surveillance, authorities identified and seized 200 wooden beams, a sawmill tower, and log carriers. The operation involved several agencies, including the National Guard and SEDENA, as investigations continue into those responsible for the illegal exploitation.
