Mexican authorities destroy 96,000 marijuana plants in Huetamo

Authorities in Michoacán, Mexico, destroyed approximately 96,000 marijuana plants discovered in the municipality of Huetamo. The plants were spread across three plantations located in the towns of San Jerónimo and Buenavista.

During land reconnaissance patrols, agents from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), including the Civil Guard and the Mexican Army, identified the crops. The plantations covered a combined area of roughly two hectares, with an estimated weight exceeding seven tons of plant material.

Operational personnel incinerated the plants on-site to prevent them from being used for illicit activities. These actions are part of the ‘Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia’, an initiative aimed at strengthening coordination between state and federal authorities to combat criminal activities and eradicate illegal crops in rural areas.
