Mexico dismantles synthetic drug labs in Michoacán and Guanajuato
Mexican federal and state security forces have dismantled multiple clandestine laboratories used for the production of synthetic drugs in the states of Michoacán and Guanajuato.
In Zitácuaro, Michoacán, a joint operation involving the Army, Navy, National Guard, and other federal agencies resulted in the seizure of 1,515 liters and 1,991 kilograms of methamphetamine. Authorities also recovered over two tons of chemical substances, reactors, gas tanks, and an improvised camp. This operation is part of the ‘Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia’ strategy.
In Acámbaro, Guanajuato, authorities dismantled a laboratory in the Irámuco area following intelligence shared by U.S. agencies, including the FBI. The operation, conducted exclusively by Mexican personnel, yielded approximately three tons of chemical precursors, including 2,803 kg of soda flakes, 400 kg of a white granular substance, and 55 kg of a yellow crystalline substance.
Federal officials reported that during the current administration, security forces have located 2,644 clandestine laboratories across the country, seizing more than 132 tons of methamphetamine and over 5,400 tons of chemical precursors.
