Mexican authorities launch digital platforms for pet adoption and registration

Authorities in Tijuana and Nuevo León have introduced new digital tools to promote animal welfare and facilitate pet adoption.

In Tijuana, the municipal government launched the Unique Registry of Companion Animals (RUAC) and a digital adoption platform. The registry aims to provide identity to pets and allow for better tracking of dogs and cats. Under municipal regulations, citizens are required to register their pets; this allows authorities to identify owners if a stray animal is captured, enabling sanctions in cases of negligence. The registration process is free and accessible online.

In Nuevo León, the Secretariat of the Environment launched a microsite dedicated to the adoption of rescued dogs and cats. The platform provides a catalog of animals currently under the care of the State Animal Care Center, including their rescue stories and medical information. The initiative seeks to encourage responsible adoption by providing citizens with the necessary information regarding animal care and the commitment required to provide a permanent home.
