Mexican authorities step up protection of Sierra de Picachos and forest resources
The government of Nuevo León signed a series of agreements with the environmental group Piensa Verde to protect the Sierra de Picachos. The pact, announced by Secretary of Citizen Participation Daniel Acosta Fregoso and Environment Secretary Raúl Lozano Caballero, includes a bi‑monthly monitoring forum and a commitment to address citizen complaints, such as calls to close the disputed Matrimar quarry.
In Michoacán, the State Attorney General’s office and the federal environmental agency PROFEPA conducted a joint inspection of a storage facility in Madero. Inspectors found missing inventory records and seized irregular pine and oyamel wood, along with other forest products, as part of precautionary enforcement against environmental violations.
Both actions are part of broader efforts by Mexican authorities to enforce environmental regulations and safeguard natural resources.
