Mexican cartel operatives detained in Juárez and die in New York prison
José Ángel “C”, known as “El Químico”, a suspected operator for the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, died while in custody at a federal prison in Brooklyn, New York. He was among 37 alleged Mexican criminal organization members transferred to the United States for prosecution under cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, and U.S. authorities are investigating the circumstances of his death.
Nicolás P. V., alias “El Nico” or “El Comandante Nico”, a 26‑year‑old alleged leader of the Juárez Cartel, was arrested on 19 June in Ciudad Juárez after police stopped a vehicle containing him and two U.S. women from El Paso. Officers seized five high‑caliber firearms, fully loaded magazines, and a luxury Audi with Texas plates. The weapons and vehicle were turned over to federal prosecutors for further action.
