Mexican civil protection agencies intensify gas safety inspections

Civil protection authorities in the Mexican states of Guanajuato and Coahuila have intensified safety inspections and public warnings regarding gas usage to prevent accidents during the colder months.

In Guanajuato, director José Félix Pérez Ramírez reported at least 30 gas leak incidents and one explosion resulting in three injuries over the last two months. Officials noted that 30-kilogram cylinders are frequently involved in these incidents, particularly due to faults in the bottom section of the tanks. Authorities are working with gas suppliers to identify and remove hazardous cylinders and are conducting inspections in markets and commercial areas.

In Coahuila, Subsecretary Ramiro Durán has reinforced inspections of gas tankers and commercial establishments. Due to increased demand for LP and natural gas during the autumn and winter, officials are monitoring the mechanical conditions of transport units and the training of operators. Additionally, the state has provided a registry of over 50 certified specialists to assist the public with domestic and commercial gas installations to prevent asphyxiation and fire risks.
