Mexican communities block roads over landfill and unfinished highway projects

Residents of Calimaya in the State of Mexico blocked Calimaya Avenue near the Toluca‑Tenango highway, demanding the closure of the San Antonio landfill operated by Vigue and the rehabilitation of local streets. They presented a petition to Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, municipal president Omar Sánchez and mayor Alejandra Castro, calling for inspections by the federal and state environmental agencies and the enforcement of waste‑management regulations.

In Catemaco, Veracruz, inhabitants halted Federal Highway 180 to press the state and federal governments to finish an abandoned road work and construct a culvert after a sinkhole caused a June landslip. Protesters demanded a clear work plan and an end to the traffic disruptions that have stranded vehicles and endangered local families.
