Crematorio Plenitud Owner Secures Temporary Amparo as Victims' Families Protest

A federal judge in Chihuahua granted José Luis A. C., the owner of the Crematorio Plenitud in Ciudad Juárez, a provisional suspension (amparo) that halts any pending arrest warrant and a possible Interpol Red Notice. The measure is temporary and does not resolve the underlying criminal case, which involves the alleged mishandling and disposal of more than 1,600 victims’ remains after the discovery of hundreds of decomposed bodies stored at the facility.

Human‑rights collectives, including Justicia Para Nuestros Deudos and Memoria, Dignidad y Justicia, denounced the suspension as a “descarada burla” and called on Rosa María Cuarón, the mother of the accused, to surrender her son to justice. They highlighted that the owner had previously been freed on an earlier amparo, later revoked by a higher court, leading to a re‑activation of the criminal process.

The families of the victims, many of whom lost relatives in the illicit cremation operation, continue to demand accountability and swift legal action, while the legal team of José Luis A. C. has lodged an administrative complaint against judges involved in the case.
