Morena faces potential rift with PT over alliance preferences

Tensions are rising within the ruling political coalition in Mexico as Morena appears to favor its alliance with the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) over the Labor Party (PT). Reports indicate that Morena leadership, headed by Ariadna Montiel Reyes, has granted PVEM leadership roles in the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty (DTySN) coordinations across several states, including Quintana Roo, Nayarit, Baja California Sur, and San Luis Potosí.

In response to this perceived snub, PT Deputy Coordinator Reginaldo Sandoval Flores has demanded a direct confrontation or “careo” between current DTySN coordinators and the PT’s preferred candidates in states such as Michoacán, Colima, Zacatecas, and Nuevo León. In Colima, this would involve a confrontation between Rosi Bayardo and PT candidate Joel Padilla Peña. The lack of response from Morena leadership has led to speculation regarding an imminent rupture between Morena and the PT.
