Mexican electoral tribunals issue rulings on child privacy and political violence

The Electoral Tribunal of the State of Mexico (TEEM) has issued a public reprimand to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and its municipal president in Tenancingo de Degollado, Andrea Nava Jiménez. The sanction follows a determination that the party violated the principle of the best interests of the child by using identifiable images of minors in social media posts without the required legal authorizations.

In a separate legal development, the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) ruled that community journalist Élfego Riveros did not commit political violence based on gender. The TEPJF overturned previous rulings from local Veracruz courts that had penalized Riveros, establishing a precedent intended to prevent the misuse of gender-based violence allegations to silence community and indigenous media practitioners.
